Hi, I’m Jonathan Martinetto

Founder of Aquaponics Revolution

Born in France on the border of the Doubs river, I spent my childhood in and around the water — fishing, diving, keeping aquariums, and building ponds wherever I could. That fascination with aquatic life never left me. It shaped everything I went on to do.

I trained first as a landscape designer, specializing in aquatic environments — then earned a degree in Aquaculture from the University of Savoie and a Master’s in Food Science from ULCO. That combination turned out to be the foundation of everything I do today: it gave me both the science of fish farming and the eye of a landscape designer. Most people in aquaponics have one or the other. I was lucky enough to develop both.

I had always believed that aquaculture could be a responsible way to grow food — a way to avoid overfishing and reduce environmental harm. But working in the industry changed my perspective. I saw fish kept at stressful densities, treated with chemicals and antibiotics. I saw the pollution that came with it. It wasn’t the relationship with nature I’d imagined.

Then I discovered aquaponics — and everything clicked. A way to grow clean food, raise healthy fish, and protect water quality, all working together in one living system.

I started building and experimenting with different systems, and quickly knew this was what I wanted to dedicate my career to. In 2013 I launched what would eventually become Aquaponics Revolution — and over the past thirteen years, I’ve helped hundreds of people design, build, and live with their own aquaponics systems.

Today, my mission goes beyond just teaching the mechanics of aquaponics. I help people create something I call an aquaponic oasis — a system that produces real food, supports thriving fish, and looks and feels like a natural part of your garden or backyard. Not a plastic tub in a garage. Not an engineering project. Something beautiful, alive, and genuinely enjoyable to live with every day.

That’s what makes Aquaponics Revolution different. It’s not just about how aquaponics works — it’s about how it fits into your life.
